Sun Grown Green
Exploitation

Americans settled here about a hundred years ago. Ever since we have exploited everything in sight on this once beautiful peace of land called America. We killed the buffalo, and stole the land from the Indians for our own pleasure. Once we settled in we did not stop there we destroyed the land in prospect for gold(strip mining today), cut down trees, and built our own farmsteads. Farmsteads(our own people) where exploited by the agribusiness and homesteads turned to residences. What made the homestead a residence was the ability to go into giant retail and grocery store to purchase readily available goods(these stores, like Wal-mart, exploit small mom and pop shops) instead of growing and making yourself(because there is no dignity in manual labor, sarcasm. in case you couldn’t tell). Now today thanks to these giant corporate globally traded merchandise markets(no thanks to OPEC, NAFTA, WTO, the world bank, Agribusinesses such as DuPont, Monsanto, John Deere, yes sorry John Deere is guilty too, global trade another blog topic) have turned our households into factories. Our houses are now factories that consume, we eat everything and burn everything. The only thing we can do for our selves is the profession that we trained for in college and that is it. With the money we make from that we hired other to make products/services that we consume. Materialists, consuming. We cannot participate in society with out consuming as the average person must consume oil in there vehicle to get to were they are going(work, school). In effect, there has been a green revolution/grass roots movement. Many of these “green people” have been green-washed and produce smug. They are the people buying more unnecessary products that yes maybe have “greenism” in mind but by making these products they have created more pollution/anti-greenism. Example: ethanol fuel, yes a more efficient fuel but the energy spent to make a gallon of corn gas is more than the energy it takes to make a gallon of petroleum gas(not to mention it takes four gallons of water to make one gallon of ethanol fuel, water another blog topic). The hybrid cars, suppose we all by these hybrid cars what will we do with our old cars. Plastic bottles are recyclable but only one or two times and then the plastic is too brittle to be used again so it goes in to the land fill. Which brings me to recycling, you can re use plastic and glass but it really only delays the inevitable fact that the waste is going into the land fill at some point. Composting, a perfect example of exploitation/smug/green-washing, many companies make small compost bins claiming them to be part of the green movement. But the truth is it is just more products to consume so that the company can cash in on the green movement. What you really need to compost is a spot on the ground out side to pile your compost, not one of these fancy plastic bins. There is lots of other situations of ignorance when it comes to being environmentally friendly; land conservationists, global warming offsets, and organic farms(to what extent are they organic and why is the produce available all year round) but I will stop here, I did not want to write a book just rant on and on and on, and hate on bad people cashing in on ignorant people and sure the bad people mean well but they really are just taking advantage of the ignorant people.

Some books I have been working on. I am missing one of the most important ones. “the Unsettling of America” by Wendell Berry. Something as simple as what is on your plate can get very complicated very fast.
